Default File already open by another application

Does anyone else get an error where the Visio file can'tbe opened becasue a message says the .dtl file is open. I can get everything back if I remove the local project folder. In the last case, it happened after Visio crashed while I was editing a stencil.

I to have the same problem with a project I just created. It was early in the process so I just created a copy of the project and am using that one.

I have a few things to call tech support about today or tomorrow, so I'll show them the problem.

I've tried closing Navigator, rebooting the computer, but no luck.

This is how it was explained to me by support...

When you open a project it creates a temporary Access database (.mdb) that stores all of the changes you are making to a project. When you hit "Save" in the project it commits those changes to the project file (.dtl). When you close the project the .mdb file will delete itself. If for some reason the project is not closed properly (visio crashed in mbarnick's case) then the .mdb file is not automatically removed. The next time you go to open the project the application thinks that the file is still in use because there is already a .mdb file.

The way to fix it is to go into your local project folder ("My Documents\D-Tools SI5 Projects" by default) and find the .mdb file for that project and delete it. Keep in mind that when you do this you are deleting the changes that you made to the PDM since your last successful "Save" (see previous paragraph). Unfortunately I was told that there is not a way to recover the changes that you are losing...so SAVE, SAVE and SAVE again while you are working!!!

Hope this helps!

Makes sense. I guess if the error message listed the .mdb file instead of the .dtl file that might help people better solve the problem in the future. I kinda developed the habit to check in the project continuously to work around a previous bug.

I had this happen today - but there was NO .mdb file... there was, however, a .DTL file - and I simple renamed it and was able to get in just fine. Is that bad???

Renaming a .dtl file (or any project file for that matter) through Windows Explorer is never a good idea. Especially in SI5!!

In other words...DONT DO WHAT SLEMAY DID!!!!
