maybe I mislead the note in the Service pack 1 release PDF.

Save Project Prior to Running Reports
Projects must be saved in order to run reports on the latest version. You will be prompted to do this if you have not already.

I did not receive a prompt while switching between building the project and looking at the reports.

You are correct the prompt is missing. You must save the Project before running reports. Development has been notified.
