Default Categorizing Accessories

I am reevaluating some of our practices and one thing I would like to streamline is the "category" of "accessory" with regard to differentiating between critical versus non-critical accessories. Let me explain:

"Critical": could be a small $100 part such as a Viking ring detector. It's a small "accessory", but it's critical to the system design and has to be detailed in schematics, and I want to see it in most reports.

"Non-critical"" this could be anything from plaster rings to F connectors. They are non-critical, don't need to be shown in schematics, and I don't want to see them on most reports.

Please note, when I use the term accessory here I am referring to the category in the master table, NOT accessories that are associated to skus.

So the question is, I want an easy way to filter non-critical items while leaving critical items, both in reports as well as when working in the data matrix. I am therefore considering a category of "parts" for "non-critical" and "accessories" for "critical". How are the rest of you addressing this? Of course another way would just be to use one of the existing categories for all "critical" items and only use "accessories" for non-critical.
